I made this Hello Kitty Waving cake for the daughter of a friend. I first baked a strawberry cake using a 11×15 Wilton sheet cake pan.
After cooling the cake I put it in the freezer which makes it really firm and easy to work with, and it also helps reduce the amount of crumbs. Later using a homemade template I cut out the shape of the cake, then I crumb coated it with vanilla butter cream icing. To decorate the cake I stenciled on the various features using the star piping technique along with several different colors of butter cream, like pink and purple to make it very girly.
I decided not to add Hello Kitty’s whiskers because it did not fit in well with the over all look of the cake; however, color, shape, and style can be varied to create an individualized cake.
