Cool Homemade Tinkerbell Birthday Cake

I used the Wilton Barbie pan set and an extra 10″ round for this Homemade Tinkerbell Birthday Cake. Then cooled and refrigerated overnight to minimize the crumbs and increase flavor. Then assembled the two pieces and trimmed the bottom edge at an angle with a serrated knife to match the bottom of the skirt.

I wrapped the doll in saran wrap to her waist, cut a hole down through the center, carefully pulled out the cake with a regular size spoon and placed the doll in. I made some cake spackle with some of the cut off edges and icing (and a few drops of water if needed) and evened out the joints and the area at the waist. Crumb coat and set in the fridge for about 15 minutes.

Next, fashion the bodice with a bit of fondant, making it longer than needed so it flares out over the top of the skirt. It will all be covered when you are finished. Then run a bead around the bottom with tip #21. Next, using tip #104 do a ruffle all the way around. The bead you run will help the ruffle stand out a bit. Repeat to the top and finish with fondant leaves. The large flowers at the bottom are done with tip #104 also onto a waxed paper square set on top of a flower nail. Make them like a primrose only with the tip reversed to wide side out. Then place them in the freezer for a while and peel off of the waxed paper and attach to the cake with a small bead of icing.

Happy baking.
