Coolest Princess Crown on Pillow Cake

I made this cake for my daughters 1st birthday. This was her personal cake. The party cake was a storybook castle.

I baked the pillow in a small rectangular pyrex dish I had. When it was cooled I cut cresent shapes out of each of the sides to give it the pillow shape. I crumb coated the cake with buttercream icing and covered in white fondant. I then indented the quilting pattern with a rounded wooden dowel and dusted the entire thing with pearl dust. The ropes and tassles are also fondant. I took white sprinkles and placed on the top and then painted pink dots with pearl dust diluted with clear vanilla extract. The pink strip on the tassles was also done with this method.

The tiara was made with royal icing. I took a pattern from the internet and sized it to the size I needed. I then taped the pattern to a soup can, placed waxed paper over it and piped the royal icing over pattern. I had to go over this twice to get it thick enough so it would not break. I also made three of these and good thing I did because one broke the day of her party. I then dusted the crown with pink edible pearl dust.

This cake was not hard at all to make. The crown can be made well in advance which is what I did so it made it a lot easier.
