Homemade Nemo Birthday Cake

This Nemo cake was made for a little boy celebrating his 1st birthday.

I made an 8 inch 2 layer cake with buttercream icing. The cake is frosted in teal to represent water. I found a picture of Nemo online, resized it to fit the top of the cake and traced it onto parchment paper. After the frosting set, I transfered the Nemo picture using piping gel and used black icing gel to outline the character before using a #16 star tip to fill him in with orange and white icing.

I decorated the side of the cake with starfish, seaweed and a lobster.

For the starfish, I used a star shaped cookie cutter and used a #16 star tip to outline an fill it in.

For the seaweed, I used a #67 leaf tip with green icing and started at the bottom of the cake and piped each leaf toward the top of the cake.

The lobster is a plastic toy I purchased at the local dollar store, it came with a shark, dolphin, and seaweed not used for this cake.
