Homemade Princess Castle Birthday Cake

I made this castle cake for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. It was fun to make, yet a little time consuming. i got the idea online and followed it as closely as possible. this was the first birthday cake i had ever made, so it’s not that neat. i three 8″ square cakes, cut one into fourths, and froze them over night.

The base of the cake is two of the 8″ square cakes stacked on top of each other. the second layer is two of the smaller pieces stacked on top. i frosted the whole thing in white and added 5 towers made from sugar cones that were frosted and then rolled in sugar sprinkles. i then added decorations around the edges using pink and purple icing and added gumdrops and strawberry whoppers for more decoration. i personalized the cake with blue gel icing.

i then baked a batch of cupcakes, frosted them, added sprinkles and a gumdrop to each one, then placed them around the castle as the castle walls. these were given out to guests so that we didn’t have to cut up the cake and make a big mess out of it!

even though it was a little sloppy, my daughter still LOVED it! it took me about 2 hours to decorate it on the morning of her birthday and i was running out of time, so i was a little rushed. i would recommend allowing at least 3 hours for decorating so you can take your time and make it as neat and special as possible for you little princess!
