Coolest Ariel Underwater Cake

My sister and I made this Ariel Underwater cake together for my niece’s 8th birthday. This was our first ever work with fondant. My sister used her own eggless homemade cake recipe and baked 2 cakes, one a rectangular and the other a square cake.

We cut the square cake into half diagonally and placed one over the other onto the rectangular cake layering vanilla custard in between. We then frosted the cake lightly with buttercream frosting and covered it with marshmallow fondant dyed in blue.

We got the inspiration from other Ariel cakes from this website. We made the underwater corals, shells, fishes and seaweed all with the left over fondant, coloring it as needed. The Ariel doll is a plastic toy from my daughter’s collection. We made Ariel sit on a coral rock.

We were pretty satisfied with our first fondant cake. The best part of all was that we had a great time together making it. Not to mention, my niece loved her cake too.
