This is a Homemade Horsey Cake I made for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. She loves horses. I got some ideas off this site and just changed some things. The head is cereal treats. The body and upper thigh are cake. The bottom of the legs are also cereal treats. I was going to cover the sticks holding up her head (which are kabob sticks) by making them into tall wild flowers and adding some more around the body, but I ran out of time, so I just left it.
This cake was a big hit and I love the way it turned out. The hardest thing about this cake was shaping the head and neck. I used parchment paper like gloves to smoosh the cereal treats together as it cooled to get it in to the general shape I wanted then after it was completely cool and harder I shaved it with a knife to get it exactly right.
The other thing is to remember that a horse’s head kind of comes out of the front of its neck, it doesn’t sit on top of its neck, if that makes any sense.
