Coolest Monkey Faces Birthday Cake

I made these monkey faces for cupcake toppers out of marshmallow fondant.

I colored them using Wilton’s icing colors. I then used circle cutters to cut the faces and ears, and a small heart cutter to do the white behind the eyes, just trimming off the tip of the heart. I made the muzzle free hand, forming it as I thought it should look. The ears were two toned; I just pressed the lighter fondant into the darker until it was flush. I used the end of a paint brush to make the nostrils. I cut the smiles with an exacto knife. The blacks of the eyes were piped with black icing.

I made 30 of these, plus a 11′ long paper monkey banner, using my cricut. These were for a friend’s baby shower. As I was going out of town and couldn’t make the cupcakes, she asked me to do these edible toppers and bought the cupcakes. The monkey faces were a big hit!
