Coolest Red Sox Skull Cake

My son has an October birth date, so this year he wanted a Halloween/Red Sox skull cake. This is what I came up with. I thought it turned out kind of neat. I was extremely rushed so the decorating is a little sloppy.

I used store bought dark chocolate fudge cake mix with creamy white frosting. I baked the cake in a 9X13 square pan. I couldn’t figure out how to do the baseball cap by doing a frontal view of the skull. The brim of the cap was the problem. I decided to trim the cake so the skull had a slight side view.

Once I had the white icing on the cake I then sketched the cake shape on paper and drew the baseball cap, eye sockets, nose hole, teeth all at an angle appropriate to the side view of the skull. By drawing it out on paper made it a lot easier for me.

I then decorated the cake going exactly by the sketch. By doing the slight side view of the skull really gave the cake a 3D effect. I placed the candles in the teeth of the skull. It looked wicked when the candles were lit!
