Coolest Thomas The Train Birthday Cake

I wanted to make a Thomas the Train birthday cake for my son’s 3rd birthday. Did research on how to make a train cake.

I was tempted to buy train baking pan/mould at Wilton’s, because it may be easier than trying to attempt if doing free hand. However, I wanted to take the challenge of doing it free hand and see how it would turn out in the end.

Pretty stressed making the Thomas, the main engine part, I did a short cut, printed out Thomas’s cheery smile, taped on a cardboard, voila! there’s Thomas!

I baked butter cakes, you can use the regular sized loaf pan, cut into sections, or use a mini loaf pans with 6 to 8 cavities, depending, available at Wilton’s. Mini carriages, including the end part of the train, the caboose.

The fun part was the DECORATING! Used buttercream icings, you can select any colors, make them bright and colorful. The “tracks” and the carriages “attachments/links” you can use thick licorice, any flavors you like.

Decorate each carriage with gummy bears, life savers, animals crackers, chewy fruit drops, M & M’s, any chocolate candies, the sky’s the limit.

Took me 4 hours to complete in a humid kitchen, it was summer time, and tough luck for me, our air conditioner broke down!
