My mom made this Thomas the train cake for my cousin on his 4th birthday. She decided to make the 3D Thomas train cake using the 3D Thomas train cake pan and horse shoe cake pan. We decided to place the train in between the horseshoe so that it looked more real against its background.
First she applied leaf green butter icing covering the entire horseshoe and applied a darker green icing to the grass. Then she added some various coloured candies in the grass to make it look like flowers. Also she used some of the decorating ornaments on top of the arch.
Secondly, she cut out a rectangle piece of cake for the railway track and covered it with brown fondant icing. She decorated the body of the train using butter icing in royal blue, no taste red, lemon yellow and brown.
She mixed gray icing to the face and black and white icing to the eyes. She decorated the top of the train using M&M and lollipops. Finally,she applied whip cream to create the smoke effect on top. The cake turned out very colourful and attractive.
