Coolest Tiger Cake

I made this tiger cake for my son’s 3rd birthday – a wild animal party!

I made two orange cakes (with fresh oranges from the neighbor’s tree). One cake mix was baked in a round cake tin, the other mix went into cupcake molds and a shallow rectangular tin.

The tiger’s ears and cheeks were made using cupcakes (the rounded tops cut off). The long nose was cut from the cake from the rectangular tin. All of the pieces were then attached to the main cake using orange-flavoured icing.

Made two quantities of icing – for the darker orange used one part red to two parts yellow colouring (needs quite a bit of colour to make the deep orange). Added a little bit of deep orange to white icing to make the apricot colour for the cheeks.

Used marshmallows, smarties and jubes (cut into appropriate shapes) for the facial features. The stripes were cut from strips of liquorice using pinking scissors. Final touches were added with black icing-writing (bought in supermarket).
