Homemade Super Mario Bros Birthday Cake

My son loves Super Mario Bros, so it was a no brainer to give him a Mario themed party. This cake was so much fun to make. I looked at a lot of others on here and used what I could find to make this cake. I used a 9×11 cake pan for the bottom and bread loaf pan for the top layer (it was all I had on hand). The pipe on top is made out of oreos covered in frosting. I frosted both cakes with butter cream frosting dyed with food coloring. Then I used a star tip cake froster to go between the edges. The clouds are mini marshmallows. The “goombas” are large marshmallows dipped in chocolate and cooled with frosting for the faces, that was the hardest part. The grass around the edge was just coconut dyed green. I purchased Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi at walmart, and the bomb guy at party city. I thought the star candles went well with it. It was so much fun because I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to make it until the morning of the party and just did what I thought would look cool. Everybody loved it, especially my son.

  1. I love how Luigu is bigger than Mario. Looks like in the game where he eats a mushroom or even in the one where they are giant. Very creative and eclectic. Also the fact that Mario is on the tube connotes a journey like another year. I will remember this cake.
