Homemade Superhero Cake

A few years ago, I wanted to make a cake for my godson who loved superheros. I opted to try my first three tier cake. I baked round cakes in three sizes, 12″, 9″, and 8″

For the bottom 12″ cake, I iced using Wilton red icing, with buttercream icing. It took a bit of playing to get the red I wanted. The middle cake was iced using Wilton yellow, and again I tried to get it as bright as possible. For the top cake, I drew the Superman emblem onto a piece od cardboard, placed it on top of the 8″ cake and then trimmed the cake accordingly.

For the Superman emblem, I used Wilton tip 16 and starred the emblem with the correct colors. I also tinted some icing blue wich I used for the side of the top tier and for my godson’s name.

For the second Batman layer, I simply outlined the bat in black and then filled it in, this is also where I added the name.

For the bottom layer, I piped the web and spider using black icing and Wilton’s medium writing tip. All in all, I was happy with the cake, and have now done many multi layer cakes. But this will always be my favorite!
