Coolest Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea

My 2 year old niece is crazy about Hello Kitty. Since I didn’t have the template, I used a picture off the internet for this Homemade Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea , enlarged it to A3 and cut the face out.

Step One:

I used coloured sugar paste icing black, rolled it out and cut out the eyes and whiskers, yellow sugar paste for the nose and pink for the bow, The bow I cut a rectangle piece with the middle cut out the shape of a bow. I gathered it in a bit and stuck a round cutout with buttercream. I puffed up the bow with two pieces of wrapper underneath and left it there till the bow was hard and dry.

Step Two:

I baked two sponge cakes, put jam in the middle and let it cool down. Once cool I covered with plastic wrap and froze.

Step Three:

Once frozen I cut out the shape and put a crumb coat of butter icing using wooden spoon butter to keep it white.

Step Four:

Roll out white sugar paste icing and cut out the shape about 5mm bigger than the template (you’ll see why later). Once the crumb coat is dry to touch, gently lay the sugar paste face on the cake. Your eyes and nose can be put on with the buttercream icing.

Step Five:

Using the buttercream icing gently give the cake its final layer, using that 5mm extra as a guide. After this add the bow and the whiskers. And there you have a perfect Hello Kitty cake with minimum effort.
