Homemade Fancy Dress Belle Birthday Cake

This Fancy Dress Belle Birthday Cake was for a little girl's 6th birthday, the request was rather simple, eggless sponge cake, (I substituted the eggs with vinegar), a swinging ball gown dress with flowers, makeup and shoes, a real Beauty and the Beast Bell's dress? (every girl's fantasy).

I made a 3 layered eggless cake, the bottom of the dress is made from a round sandwich cake tin. Icing is made from cream and confectionery sugar (icing sugar), bottom layer is made from a moist chocolate cake recipe. The two top layers are made from a vanilla tea cake, (this cake made it easier to stick the doll into the cake without crumbling)

The dress is decorated with confectionery edible balls, fondant gold roses and topped with glitter. Fondant images were used for the shoes and makeup as decorations.

Fancy Nancy Birthday Cake

This cake is strawberry banana with cream cheese frosting. Each tier is double layered. The bottom tier is 9 inches, the middle tier is 6 inches, and the top tier is 3 inches. I used strawberry cake mix and added mashed bananas and extra strawberry extract. (Any time I want to add something else to the cake mix I save the eggs for last so I can taste the batter until I get it the way I want it, then I add the eggs.) The frosting was from a can but I mixed in a tablespoon or so of Crisco, it cuts the sweetness. I add more powdered sugar until it is thicker for decorating. The butterflies and stuff came from a local craft store.

I started out with two 9" round strawberry cakes and layered them on top of each other and then had a separate 6" round layer. I iced them with whipped butter cream and used colored fondant to give it a nice finish and add great color.

I made the number five on the computer and taped it to a skewer. I bought a bouquet of little fabric flowers and other bouquets of jewels and butterflies and placed them all over the homemade Fancy Nancy birthday cake. I bought three plumes and stuck them in the back. Super simple, fun to make and looks great!
