This Handy Manny Tool Box 1st Birthday Cake I made for my nephew's birthday. He loved the show Handy Manny so I decided to make him a little tool box. I took a 9x13x2 as well as a smaller rectangular cake pan and made from 2 white cake mixes. I then made Butter Cream Frosting and colored it to the colors of each tool on the show. I cut the tools out in the actual cake. I did not use any patterns, if it makes it easier, just cut out a window and use some from that as well as the extra pan.
I bought a cake decorating kit from Wal-Mart and used the smallest tip to decorate the “Tools” and the medium tip for the outer edge the “Tool Box” in this picture. I was running out of time and I needed to take the pic before I finished the Handle, it was red as well. To complete this cake it took me 2 days but that was only because I had to work, this should have taken me a total of 6 hours, that’s because I cut the pieces out of the cake. It will take less if cut and added to the cake. Another tip for the frosting, don’t use the piping bags out of the Wal-Mart kit, use zip loc bags, much easier!!
I made this Homemade Handy Manny Birthday Cake for a little boy’s 2nd birthday. It is a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. Since I hate the taste of fondant, I used modeling chocolate to make the measuring tape border and the Handy Manny tools. The lines on the measuring tape were marked with a food coloring marker, which took several tries to get it to work the right way, but I got it. The tool box on top is made of rice cereal treats and then covered in modeling chocolate. The modeling chocolate was easier to work with than the fondant, and is definitely more forgiving making it easier to hide the seems and to add more if necessary.
In order to color the chocolate, I used petal dust and vodka. (Don’t worry about the alcohol content, the vodka evaporates and just leaves the beautiful colors behind.) I used a piping bag to draw confetti strings in order to give it that party feel. The little boy was so excited about his special cake, and they had a great party to go with the fantastic cake!
My son absolutely loves Handy Manny and the tools. He loves fixing things around the house with all the tools and his tool box. So for his second birthday I created a Handy Manny tool box cake with all the tools. The whole thing is made of cake and fondant. The whole homemade Handy Mandy toolbox cake and all the tools are all edible. The tools took most of the time in creating all the little details. I even put the eyelashes on squeeze.
I made a square chocolate cake and cut a whole in the middle of it for the tools to fit into it. On the sides of the cake I made the number 2 on it and made little screws to hold up the sign with his name on it on the front of the cake.
Everyone loved the Handy Manny toolbox cake and didn't want to cut into it to eat it because they didn't want to destroy it.
