Coolest Caillou 3D Cake

I decided to make a Caillou 3D cake for my son’s 2nd birthday. He loves the show and I couldn’t find any local business to create one so I made one myself. I started with the Wilton Stand Up Bear cake pan. I followed the directions for the

pan in creating the cake mix. (1 firm pound cake mix & 1 two layer boxed cake mix).

Pound Cake recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

5 eggs

2 teaspoons flavoring of choice (see note*)

*Note: possible flavoring – vanilla extract, lemon zest or extract, orange zest or extract, almond extract or 1 tsp nutmeg. I mainly use almond but they are all excellent flavorings for a pound cake).

Preheat oven to 350:F Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each one Add flour, beat until smooth. Add flavoring.

I then made a store bought boxed yellow cake and mixed the two together.

Once it was done baking (60 min) I let it cool overnight. I then cut off the nose, arms, legs, ears and tail off the bear. I cut off the feet and saved those for the shoes. I inserted butterfingers for the arms and legs. I then attached the bears feet back on creating Caillou’s shoes. I made my own fondant icing and colored it with basic food coloring.

Fondant Recipe:

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp. butter or shortening

1 tbsp. milk or water

Mix all ingredients together until very firm, then use a rolling pin, and roll the fondant out on wax paper,

I rolled it out into thin sheets and laid it over the cake and smoothed it out. I put the fondant on in sections. After each section I would return the cake to the fridge to cool so that when I applied the fondant it would stick better.

This cake was a huge success and very tasty.
