I made this Care Bear Cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday using the Wilton 3-D bear tin in a delicious Orange Chocolate Sour Cream Cake. It is perched on top of a cloud (flower) shaped Banana Cake (which we probably could have done without as there was plenty of cake in the bear – even though it looks quite small).
The Cloud cake is frosted with an American meringue type White Frosting which is gives it a glossy look, but sets quite nicely. The Care Bear’s face, tummy & ears are iced with white molding fondant and the body is iced with Vienna cream icing (which I burst 2 icing bags applying!). It’s heart shaped nose, bottom TM heart, feet pads & eyes are made from strawberry flavored chocolate & it’s eye’s & lashes are made of licorice.
The tummy hearts are hand painted in watered down coloured food gel pastes. The cloud has yellow coloured white chocolate stars on it and it is dusted with silver fleck edible dust. I also built up some areas of the cloud with giant marshmallows to give it more dimension.
The guests were amazed it was a cake & they all wanted to try the chocolate stars – even though they weren’t flavoured – just coloured!)
