Coolest Cars Race Track Cake

My son is absolutely obsessed with the movie Cars, so that was the theme we went with for his 2nd birthday. I got the idea for this cake from other cakes on this web site. I started by making 2- 9” round cakes. Once they cooled I cut a piece off of each cake and placed them flat up against each other. I then took the pieces that were cut off and put one at each end of the cakes. This gives the track more of an angle at the turns. This step did require a little bit of “carving” to give it more of an incline.

Once the cake was put together, I frosted the entire thing with store bought white frosting. I tinted some frosting with green food coloring and made the grass in the middle using a specific Wilton tip (can’t remember which one). I purchased a tube of ready to use black frosting for the checkered flag decoration on the sides. I used my finger to smooth it and give it a more uniform appearance…this was messy. For the track I used Oreo cookies (minus the filling) that I had put in a food processor and then placed toy cars on in which doubled as a birthday present! I finished this cake with M&Ms along the border and store bought checkered flag toothpicks in the center. This cake was so easy and so much fun to make!!!
