Cool Homemade Dr. Seuss Birthday Cake Design

This Dr. Seuss Birthday Cake Design was a cake my wife and I entered into my son’s kindergarten cake contest to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. She bakes the cake and makes the icing. I decorate. Anyhow, everybody seems to do the Cat in the Hat’s hat or Green Eggs and Ham, so we wanted to stay far away from those icons and went with the Lorax instead.

It’s just a chocolate cake decorated with 100% butter cream icing. I outlined the drawing into a blue base coat. I then piped the over the sketch with black butter cream icing. Then I filled in the colors with hundreds of piped stars of varying sizes. That’s all there is to it. And to explain what exactly is happening in the picture, I wrote the following with all apologies to Dr. Seuss:

“I’m being quite useful. This thing is a Thneed. A Thneed’s a Fine-Something-That-All-People-Need! It’s a shirt. It’s a sock. It’s a glove. It’s a hat. But it has other uses. Yes, far beyond that. It’s sweet, low in fat and easy to bake. So here I have made you a Birthneed-Day cake!”

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
