Coolest Toy Story Cake

For my daughter’s second birthday I decided to make a Homemade Toy Story Cake, inspired by her latest obsession with all things Toy Story. This was the first cake I made and after hours of work and no sleep the night before it was all worth it when I saw how excited she was about this cake.

It is a chocolate two-tiered cake, one 9” and the other 5 ½” with a cream cheese raspberry filling, a crumb coat and covered with rolled sky blue homemade marshmallow fondant. I inserted plastic dowels into the bottom tier to support the weight of the top tier. With butter cream left over from the crumb coat and Wilton’s decorating tip #8, I piped clouds onto the fondant to make it look like Andy’s wall paper. I also used decorating tip #35 to pipe a border along the bottoms of the tiers (mostly to hide the cake board used to support the top tier).

The top tier also featured a “Happy Birthday 2” that I made with red and yellow fondant to resemble the memorable toy story logo. I used blue frosting and tip #4 to pipe a blue border around the letters. For embellishment I decorated the cake with toy story figures I bought from various department stores.
