Homemade Pirate Birthday Cake

My 2 kids both have birthdays in May (5 and 3) and they both love Jake and the Neverland Pirates. I decided to have a Pirate themed party for them this year. I looked through all the cakes on this site and decided to make a cake that was a combination of some of the cakes I saw on here (plus very simple).

I made 2 different boxed cakes-one in a regular 9X13 pan and one as cupcakes. I did funfetti for the regular cake and chocolate for the cupcakes. I then made a pirate island with vanilla frosting-frosted half of the cake with white frosting and used food coloring to make the other half blue for water. My daughter and I crushed graham crackers to make the sand on the beach-put the graham crackers in a baggie and crushed them with a wooden spoon. She then sprinkled the “sand” on the white half of the cake. I then frosted about half of the cupcakes blue and the other half with the “sand”. I put them around the cake to make more of an island feel.

I had found the pirate men at a local party store along with the ship and the treasure chest in the back. We used palm trees and rocks from a set our kids have. I also bought fake gold coins which we put by the treasure chest. And last we added some fruit snack sharks for the water. The cake isn’t anything difficult or special, but my kids and the guests loved it!
