Homemade Bob the Builder Cake Idea

My nephew LOVES Bob the Builder, so there was no doubt what his 2nd birthday cake was going to be!
This Bob the Builder Cake Idea was constructed out of two plain supermarket chocolate cakes (my oven decided not to work the day before, so it was a quick trip to get something, anything for it!!) cut up and sandwiched together with skewers to keep in place to form the shape of 'Scoop', a machine character from the show.

I was a little unhappy with the outside, being such a fresh moist cake, the crumbs came away as I tried to spread buttercream on it, but the birthday boy didn't mind, which is what counts I guess!

The roof and facial accents are made of sugar fondant, available in the sugar isle at the supermarket, and the black wheels are licorice rolls, the front ones cut smaller than the back (I also used a tiny bit of the leftover pieces in the eyes. I crushed up honeycomb pieces and Maltesers to form the 'dirt' in the scoop and tray, which was so tasty!!

Finished off with Bob and Wendy figurines and our Bob fan squealed with delight at cake time.

For my son's 3rd birthday, we decided on a Bob the Builder theme. I had all the decorations and wanted to have the cake be something special that would be the showpiece of the table. I borrowed the Wilton half-sheet pan from a friend and bought the Bob pan on the internet. My son helped mix the batter and we baked the base and Bob the day before. I let them both cool, iced the base and assembled the day before decorating.

Using Wilton color gels and regular white frosting, I mixed the colors and decorated Bob. The base was decorated to be a road under construction using my son's Muck and Roley for accents. We finished off the cake design with Scoop lifting the #3 candle into place.

To give the kids something else fun to eat, my mom made some Oreo Dirt Pudding with worms and served it in the back of a dump truck to compliment the cake. This Bob the Builder Under Construction Cake was a huge hit!

Coolest Bob The Builder Birthday Cake 25

This Bob The Builder Birthday Cake is a Victoria sponge which I covered in white fondant icing. I coloured some sugarpaste peach and some yellow. I then printed a picture of Bob's face off the internet. I traced around the picture onto the peach sugarpaste and cut round it. I then traced round the hat onto the yellow sugarpaste and put it on top.

I then placed the face onto the cake. I made the ears and nose and the raised bit of the hat and stuck them on. Using a black icing pen I drew on the '2' and the mouth. The eyes are made from upside down chocolate chips pushed in. And the hair is made from chocolate sprinkles. The base is yellow butter cream pipped round with smarties pushed into it.

I made two 10inch square sponge cakes and cut a template of Bob out of greaseproof paper and then cut the shape out. I then used buttercream evenly spread over the cake and then with a cocktail stick I drew Bob on top and went around the outline in black buttercream and started to fill in the shirt and everything else with the correct colours in buttercream.

I piped the sides and finished off this Bob the Builder Birthday Cake with giant chocolate buttons on the side. I was pleased with the result, and hopefully my friend's 2 year old was as well.

I think this cake is amazing and the two year old would have enjoyed this cake lots. I think you should make a lot more cakes for people or make you own shop and sell them. Good luck with the rest of your cakes!

Fabulous cake you must have great patience and a good eye to keep everything so straight and neat. You could take this up as a profession not just a hobbie!
