Coolest 3rd Birthday Barbie Cake

My daughter wanted a barbie cake so I decided to make her one after looking on this website and gathering lots of tips. I used a 10″ square tin and a dome shaped tin due to the amount of people it needed to feed. I hired them both from the cake shop. My 10″ cake didn’t rise very well so I had to make another one and sandwich them together.

I used strawberry jam and some buttercream. I then had trouble getting the Barbie in the cake (when I made the holes for her to be pushed into, the cake split!!). Luckily, I had some bits of cake spare after leveling off the two 10″ cakes. I used buttercream to cover the cake as I find noone really eats fondant icing so thought it would be a waste. Luckily the Barbie I used had a top on already so I didn’t have to cover her top half.

I tinted the icing pale pink for the base cake and dark pink for the skirt. I enjoyed decorating the cake the best and used butterflies, flowers and lots of glitter. I had the decorations, flowers and letters made from a cake seller on eBay so it made it easier! My daughter was amazed with the 3rd birthday Barbie cake and was very happy! I too was very pleased at how it turned out and we had such lovely comments from all our guests.

It fed 12 children, 20 adults and we still have loads left over!
