Python Cake

Python Cake

I work at a pet store and the girl that worked in the reptile section was leaving to go to school and I wanted to make her a special cake so I looked at some of the cakes here and came up with this python cake.

I baked two bundt cakes (carrot cakes) and cut them in half and put the ends together to make the wavy snake shape. With a sharp knife I shaped the head/neck and then the tail. I frosted it with cream cheese frosting and let it set.

I rolled out white fondant the right length and width to cover and placed it over the frosting. I let that set for a couple of hours. Using Wilton's orange food coloring paste I mixed up several shades of orange and with a candy paint brush I just layered the shades until I was happy with the results.

For the eyes I used raisons topped with a dot of orange frosting. The tongue I just rolled and cut out of pink fondant. I used a toothpick to make the nose holes and shape the mouth. It was a big hit at work!

Great job, I wish I had seen your version before I made mine, I like the detailing with the yellow. I makes it more realistic looking.
