Benjamin’s Monster Truck Cake

I have almost no experience making cakes. Everything I’ve done has been with a kitchen butter knife & spoon, a regular spatula, and pre-made frosting. This is my first time posting on here. I’d like to encourage people to try making their own cakes. It’s worth the effort! Who knows, maybe someday I’ll breakdown and take a course & buy some good tools. I just wanted to share that you don’t have to have all that to try!

To fit the white cake, I drew and cut out on paper my truck. I found the simplest picture in a Tonka coloring book & copied it’s likeness for a one dimensional guide. Then took my small round pyrex and traced and cut out the wheel fenders. After the pattern was cut, I placed the paper over my slightly frozen 9X13 rectangle cake (I’m guessing the size here) and cut around the paper. I added two small chocolate cakes baked in the same pyrex for the wheels. The tips that came with the black pre-made frosting helped make the tire tread. The blue I mixed with food coloring and leftover white. To get the frosting in a baggie, I put a plastic baggie in a drinking glass and filled the bag – letting the glass hold the baggie. Then I snipped a very small hole in the corner to squeeze out the frosting. Any mistakes I made with frosting I could correct with a wet spoon or toothpick.
