Coolest 1st Ladybug Birthday Cake for Twins

My friend asked me to bake a first birthday cake for her twin girls. I decided to make them each their own ladybug. One is a sponge and the other a chocolate cake. I filled the sponge with strawberry jam and butter cream and the chocolate cake with caramel and chocolate butter cream.

I used Covapaste and colored it yellow with Wilton color gel. The red I bought as my attempt at trying to color the white fondant red ended up as one big pink ball of icing.

I used a half ball cake pan for the bodies. The heads are cupcakes covered in black fondant. I also used a cupcake to make the flower for the candle. I used liquorice to make the feelers and put a little ball of black fondant on the tip. I used different sizes decorating nozzles to make the dots. And at last my headache of finding a big enough cake board has ended. I went to Homebase (DIY store) and asked them if I can buy board cut offs. They cut it to size for me. Brilliant!!

I enjoyed baking and decorating the cakes. Although it took a few hours to decorate.
