I am a SAHM of 2 and started baking their birthday cakes out of necessity (have you seen the cost at a bakery?!). But is has definitely evolved from there. I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from this site.
This Sock Monkey cake was my first attempt at a 3-D cake. It was for my son’s 4th birthday. I made it to match the other party items.
The bed is a white sheet cake (Wilton 11×13). The monkey is a chocolate grooms cake (Wilton). This is a wonderful cake. I baked an 11×13 sheet cake and used two cereal bowls to make the head. I cut the sheet cake into 4 pieces and shaped. I put the two bowl pieces together. Let’s just say- TONS of dowels.
The cake’s not great, but not bad for a first time. My son LOVED it. Everyone said that it was crazy cute and there was a fight over who was going to get the head!
