Coolest First Birthday Turtle Cake

I couldn’t think of a birthday cake for my youngest first birthday, so I was looking over the internet to find ideas and I found your web site. Great ideas and thought I would try a First Birthday Turtle Cake.

I tried two different ways: one in a cake pan-(homemade chocolate with chocolate chips, but the chocolate chips stayed on the bottom when I flipped it to get out so we just ate that as is) and carved it out didn’t work. So I experiment (and made a yellow cake dyed green) and cooked in my cookie sheet, not bad. I had made a template of the basic shape and traced it on part of the cake. For the legs I baked four mini cupcakes. I cut off the tops and let the boys eat them, then I put them upside down on the foot area of the templated cake part where the feet go.

For the shell and head I used a medium and small circular Ziploc for the basic roundness and then put icing inbetween the the layers so they stuck and then I carved it up so it looked like a shell and head roundness and covered with marshmallow fondant, mmmm delish. I dyed different shades of green and blue and red for smile and used two smarties for eyes. YUM YUM!
