I made this Homemade Green Eggs and Ham Cake from 4 loaves of yellow cake. I set two side by side and stacked two more on top and carved around to make it look ham shaped. I “glued” the pieces together with butter cream icing. I put it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to let the icing set.
I then iced the entire cake with green butter cream icing. To get it somewhat smooth I used VIVA paper towels to smooth it out. This is the only paper towel that I know of that’s completely smooth with no decoration. You just lay the paper towel on the icing and smooth out with your hand or a fondant smoothing paddle. Then I used some black icing piped on to look like edges and creases in the ham. I put a round dollop of white butter cream on the end to look like the ham bone.
For the eggs, I iced two sugar cookies with white butter cream and made the yolk green. It was made to look like the picture in the book “Green Eggs and Ham”. I made this for my 3rd grader’s class on Dr. Seuss’s birthday. It was a huge hit through the entire school!
