Coolest Ladybug 1st Birthday Cake

I made this Ladybug 1st Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday. I was not very confident that it would be a success. But with this website I was able to get ideas and tips on how to go about making my cake.

I used two packet mix cakes for the body and one packet mix for the head. I then baked them in a large metal mixing bowl, being careful to grease and flour thoroughly. I ordered the red and black fondant from a cake shop two hours away and they were happy to post it in the mail. When kneading and rolling out the fondant I used icing sugar to stop it from sticking to my hands and the rolling pin.

I used a Tupperware scone cutter to shape the spots, a soft drink bottle screw cap lid for the black of the eyes and a milk bottle screw cap lid for the whites of the eyes. The stripe and the legs are liquorice and I used candy mint leaves to decorate around the cake (and to hide some little boo boos). All up it took me about 3 hours to make. Before I started with the fondant I got on Google and found some great sites that give you tips on how to handle it. Very very helpful.

Good luck and I hope people have as much fun as I did making their cakes!
