Coolest Lightening McQueen Cake

I decided that I would start making my child’s birthday cakes and this Lightening McQueen cake was my first attempt at it. I was not sure what to expect but he really liked the movie Cars and I really wanted to make something special for him.

I used a Wilton shaped cake pan (the trick with those is definitely remove the cake from the shaped pan when it is still a little warm otherwise it sticks). I made butter cream icing and tinted all the colors I needed ( I always make way too much, but that way I make sure that I have enough so that the color matches exactly).

With the red I learned to use the No Taste red from Wilton otherwise it has a funny taste to it. To make the background a little interesting I did it in black and white like the checkered flag at the end of a race. I measured the length and width of the cake and divided it into equal squares and marked it by pressing non wax dental floss into the base icing in a straight line to make the boxes before I added the Lightening McQueen.

My son was very excited and loved the cake. People were asking where I ordered it from.
