Coolest Mickey Birthday Cake

For my son’s first birthday we went to Disneyland. He loved Mickey Mouse. And so for his first birthday I wanted to combine his two favorites, Firetrucks and Mickey Mouse. I saw a similar design here on Coolest Cakes, and because I couldn’t find anything I liked at a bakery I decided to make my own cake Mickey birthday cake.

I used 2 regular cake box mixes for the 2 14 x 11 sheet cakes for the base and 1 for the Wilton Mickey Mouse pan that I bought on EBay. Mickey is on top of one sheet cake and the firetruck is on another sheet cake. The firetruck is made out of 2 pound cakes stacked on top of one another and 2/3 of another pound cake standing on end.

The windows, ladder and bumper are preztles, the fire hose is the long tootsie rolls, the wheels are Oreos, and the lights are jelly beans and big hot tamales. The hose nozzle is a frosted ice cream cone and the “water” is cling wrap. The fire helmet on Mickey is a piece of cardboard that I cut out and then frosted over to match the cake.

The frosting was regular whipped frosting you by in the grocery stores and I used the Wilton frosting dye. The cake was a hit and it looked awesome if I do say so myself. We even had the local Firefighters in our neighborhood and they loved it too!
