Cool Homemade Optimus Prime Cake

I baked two huge sheet cakes, one vanilla and one chocolate for this Optimus Prime cake. Then on a large piece of butcher block paper I drew out the body, making sure to use block or robotic type forms.

I used fresh whipping cream and crushed Oreos as the filler for the layers. Then I cut out the paper shapes, and used them as a guideline for cutting the cake. (I don’t trust myself to freehand!) Then I lightly frosted them with homemade buttercream. I then colored all the fondant and began covering my pieces.

I let all the pieces set before trying to do any of the detail work or assembly. I then used long skewers to connect the body parts and used small chocolate donuts as the “tires” on his body. I then cut the flames out and used water to connect them to the body. i used black tinted royal frosting to do the detail work.

It was a lot of work, but it was well worth it, everyone enjoyed it and it looked great, I think!

You cake looks really good. My son is having a Transformer themed party and I can not find a Transformer cake. I was wondering if you make cakes and if you would be willing to make one for me.
