Every year I let me kids choose the kind of birthday cake they want and I set out to make one from scratch. My son wanted an R2D2 cake for his 5th birthday so I looked online for some inspiration. I couldn’t find any flat cakes I liked, so decided to make my first three dimensional cake! It was really not that hard.
I bought a Styrofoam disc and covered it with black paper to put under the body. Then I stacked 4 round cakes and put a half ball cake on top. For the legs, I made two 9×13 cakes and cut the legs out of them. I held everything together using straws.
It was a HUGE hit at his party and everyone was impressed. Definitely the best cake I have done so far.
