Coolest Spongebob Birthday Cake Idea

My grandson wanted a Sponge Bob birthday cake for his 6th birthday. I searched the internet for a Spongebob Birthday Cake Idea, but decided to purchase a shaped cake pan. I used 2 boxes of chocolate cake mix, white and chocolate buttercream frosting, raspberry preserves for the filling.

I followed the directions included with the cake pan to bake and decorate the cake. I also made 2 dozen cupcakes and decorated them with buttercream frosting. I made candy decorations using a variety of candy melts and the sea creatures candy mold from Wilton’s. The directions for making the candies are right on the bag of candy melts. I found it to be very easy to follow the directions.

I baked the cake and cupcakes on one day, decorated the cake the next day and decorated the cupcakes on the third day, which was one day before the party. Needless to say, the cake and cupcakes were a huge success. My grandson did not want to cut into the Sponge Bob cake at first, but we had enough cupcakes for each child to get one. Each child got to pick the cupcake they liked. Later on, during the party we did cut the cake for the all the grown-ups.
