Coolest Spongebob Cake

I made this Spongebob cake out of a 9×13 boxed mix. The arms and legs are made from candy melt-covered pretzel rods. The candy melts can be found in a variety of colors at Michaels, supercenters or other craft stores. Trying to color the candy melts yourself can leave the texture “off”. It’s best to buy the color you need, if available.

The shoes are made from snack cakes that are covered with black cookie icing, the kind that semi-hardens. The icing can be found in the baking aisle at any supercenter. The shirt sleeves are also made from snack cakes. The hands are made from piped on icing. I put leftover yellow icing into a zipbag and snipped off a corner. All icing was store bought and colored with paste food coloring. I used chocolate icing for the pants, and also used the chocolate with the black food coloring wherever black was needed. I used tinited vanilla for any other colors. Look for “no taste” black and red coloring if available. Black and red tend to have very strong distinctive tastes to them.

Best of luck!
