I made this cake for my niece’s baby shower. Since she was having twins, the theme was 2 peas in a pod. For the base of the cake I baked 2 9×13 chocolate cakes and placed them side by side and iced with them with buttercream icing.

I then placed a double layer 9″ round yellow cake on top which was also iced with buttercream icing. I used fondant to shape pea pods and peas. For the babies, I used flesh color fondant and drew the facial features on the peas with edible marker. To make it look like the peas were growing on a vine, I rolled out the fondant with my hands into long narrow strings, positioned them on the cake and added icing leaves.

Working with the fondant was a little time consuming, but it was worth the effort.
