Coolest Thomas the Tank Engine Cake

This Thomas the Tank Engine Cake is my first attempt at a Thomas the Tank Engine cake. I’ve not completely mastered the art of icing so things got a bit messy!!

I’ve tried using a 3d Wilton mould before with my own cake recipe and found it very difficult and a long process, so this time I used the 3D train mould and a Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix. This meant that the sponge stood firm and cooked all the way through in less than 30mins! Bonus!

I used a Thomas Toy to copy the design.

I used ready to roll blue icing, black paste and red writing icing. It was difficult to cover the cake in the blue icing in one go and lots of gaps were made but I used a bit of water to clear up the gaps. It took a lot of patience but for a first attempt I think it went well. My nephew was only turning one so he didn’t take much notice but his four year old brother was very impressed!!

A little tip is to make the face while the cake is cooking and then stick it in the freezer while the cake is cooling. This saves a lot of time!
