Cool Homemade Thomas the Train Cake Design

My sister and I made this Thomas the Train Cake Design for my son’s 2nd birthday. It was a big hit!

It was made in a 19×13 pan and covered with green buttercream frosting. The tunnel was made out of rice crispy treats, it was surprisingly very easy to shape, and also covered in buttercream. Under the track is a layer of toffee bits (made by Wilton) and the track is fondant. I made the wood grain by pressing brown fondant on to my son’s Fisher Price barn then painted it with vodka mixed with a little brown coloring to give it some texture.

The rocks were also made out of fondant. The trees are sugar cones covered in buttercream, a star tip was used on these and just set on the cake. We also put some grass on the cake using a grass tip #133.

Lots of fun making this cake and it turned out pretty good for 2 amateurs!!
