Easy Lego Man Cake Tutorial

One of my friends’s daughters is a huge lego fan. She was having a birthday, she was turning 9! So I decided to surprise her by making her a Lego Man cake. It would be the first time using the Lego Man cake mold that I had sitting on my shelf, and my first time using Fondant. I was definitely up for the challenge. It turned out amazing! It was really easy to make too.

Prep Mold and Fill with Cake Batter

The first time I tried using the mold, I didn’t use any kind of mold release, kitchen spray, flour, etc. I figured, hey it is silicone, the cake should come right out, I also put way too much batter in it. Needless to say it didn’t come out of the mold very well. So with the remaining batter I did it again, but this time, after leveling off the mounded part of the cooked cake, I put it in the freezer for about an 1hr. After that it came right out of the mold. The following time I have used the mold, I just spray it with cooking spray and it pops out just fine. Then I just leveled off the cake with a knife.

Add Some Fondant

Now came the fun part, decorating this lego man! I had never used fondant before, but hey, I was an “above” average play-doh player when I was young, so how hard could it be to use fondant? I new I needed to knead the fondant in my hands so I went ahead and did that. I rolled out my fondant and went to work!

Add Eyes and Mouth

Once I had the fondant clothes and skin on my awesome lego man cake, I needed to give him eyes and a mouth, so I used some black icing and drew them on. Then my lego man cake was done! Since it was so easy to do, I decided to do a How-to video for my cooking show on Youtube. Everyone was really impressed with the cake, the birthday girl was so excited and loved it!! Job well done.
