Fairy Tree House Cake

My daughter was turning 3 and was obsessed with anything to do with fairies. She often told me she wanted to ‘see where the fairies lived’ – so I decided on making her a Fairy Tree House – it was a pretty big cake but we had a pretty big guest list!

I basically made 3 round pan cakes (buttercake mix) and stacked them on top of one another with some chocolate icing in-between to hold them together.

Then I rolled out chocolate fondant icing till it was very thing and wrapped it around the entire cake – making into a ‘tree stump’. Then I cover the tree stump with a thick chocolate buttercream icing. I pushed pieces of broken, flakey chocolate into the icing to make ‘tree bark’.

I made the leaves and the tree roots out of fondant and just coloured them accordingly with food colour. The little sugar flowers I bought in the supermarket.

I mixed green food colouring with coconut and caster sugar and sprinkled this around the base for the grass.

The actual fairies came from a local $2 shop – I was going to make fondant ones but just ran short on time.

The cake was a huge hit – I was pretty proud of myself because I am not very creative really!
