Homemade Sesame Street Christmas/Birthday Cake

My daughter loves Sesame Street and her birthday is in December. Naturally, it seemed like the thing to do was to combine her birthday and holiday theme. The theme for her 2nd birthday was “Christmas on Sesame Street”.

The cake is just 2 springform baked cakes, one chocolate and one vanilla. The icing is all buttercream. I have never worked with fondant before, so I just stuck with buttercream and just worked really hard to smooth it all out nicely.

The mini christmas lights were a sale purchase at the local craft store, and I ordered the mini chritsmas ornaments off ebay.

I stuck with the sesame street colors. With the remaining batter I made cupcakes and did different color frosting on top for each of the characters on the cake. We had a ball, and the theme was topped off with a visit from the big guy himself! I would suggest double checking for icing tips, as I had to use a ziplock bag because my tips were cracked!
