My daughter, who is now about to turn 9, has always been in love with alligators and crocodiles. For her 3rd birthday she really wanted an alligator cake, but I couldn’t find one anywhere. This was my first attempt at trying to make a cake shaped like something. I made one a few weeks before her birthday, as a trial run, and it went well.

I used a 13″x9″ rectangle pan to make the head. Then I cut the snout end and used the small triangles from it to make the body. To create the legs and tail, I used a bundt pan. I used cashews for the teeth and claws. The funny part about it all, my daughter demanded a strawberry cake, so when the gator was cut, it was pink inside, making it look almost as if you were really cutting an alligator open!

The cake was a hit with her and all of the guests. She will be turning 9 in a few weeks and I think I will attempt another alligator cake, as she has requested another one.
