Coolest Birthday Present Cake

I made two 9×13 cakes and used a whipped frosting with pineapple for the middle. I crumb coated with buttercream icing in green and put the cake in the fridge for about 2 hours. Then, I got pre-colored fondant and cut out the different polka dots.

For the bows, I rolled out pre-colored fondant and cut the strips about 4″ long, then took each piece and did end to end to form bow loops and stood them on their sides on foil to set. I frosted the cake in bright green and used hot water on the spatula in between to keep the frosting smooth. My daughter doesn’t like the taste of fondant, so butter cream icing was a must.

When it came time to add the polka dots and bows to the homemade birthday present cake, I added a dab of water on the backs of the polka dots to help them stick together and on the cake. To make the cake super moist, I used boxed cake mix and added a small box of pudding in a coordinating flavor and increased the egg count to 4.
