I followed a cookbook recipe exactly on how to make this cake - and only when I was done did I realize that the cookbook is wrong. Basically the right way is to bake a 9" square cake, frost it in white and then place After Eight mints in a check board pattern. The last step is to place use two different types of Hershey Kisses as the opposing checker pieces.
I also piped a border along the bottom border of the cake: The recipe doesn't call for it but I thought it finished off the cake nicely. That's it! This is quite possibly the easiest cake I've ever made although it gets a bit expensive buying all the different types of candy (considering you use so few).
