Coolest Purple Castle Cake

I made this purple castle cake for a little princess on her eighth birthday. I was asked if I could do a castle cake and remembering this site I knew I could.

I used two 10 inch layers for the base and put a single layer 6 inch on the top. The pillars were all made from ice cream cones frosted with royal icing. The sugar cones were rolled in sugar crystals.

I made them all the night before the party using royal icing. These towers were sturdy! I did not put the green on until the party either. The top cone was supported by a wooden dowel. The cake was frosted with whipped cream frosting.

At the party, I stood the cones around the cakes and piped the whipped cream in green around the base to secure it to the cake board. The last touch were the royal icing flowers I had also made the night before and transported to the party.

The mother was very pleased, as was I! Thanks for all the ideas!
