Coolest Backyardigans Cake

I made this Backyardigans cake for my twin Niece & Nephew’s 2nd B-day. I made a chocolate & vanilla marble cake 12″x18″ & iced it with butter cream.

The image of the Backyardigans was made by using a method called “Frozen Butter Cream Transfer”. Take the image that you want to use (reverse it if it has words or numbers) & tape it down to a piece of cardboard. Then take either a cut open freezer bag or a piece of wax paper & tape over the top of your image. Then use your butter cream icing to outline all of the image details in black or white.

Then use the appropriate colors to fill in the image. (Remember that what you are looking at will become the bottom & what is currently the bottom will become the top.) Place the image (cardboard & all) in the freezer for an hour or so until it hardens. Take the image out of the freezer & immediately flip it over onto you cake surface. Add a border around the image to hide any ugly edges & finish your cake decorations (words & borders & such).

  1. This is a wonderful idea. I might have to try it and I have some questions. After you outline the image how are you filling in the images with a star tip tube or you just icing the images. Looking to do for my grandbaby’s 1st birthday. Thanks!
