Coolest Jack Skellington Cake

I took Cake Decorating as one of my 5th year subjects and we were making a Halloween cake and you can’t get more Halloween than Nightmare Before Christmas.

This Jack Skellington Cake is a Madeira cake made in a circular pan then cut into two with apricot jam (use any jam you wish) and vanilla buttercream on the bottom layer then both parts were sandwiched together.

Jack’s lovely white face was made by using ready to roll icing from Morrisons which was rolled out, put over cake before trimming and smoothing the edges. I drew the outline of the mouth and eyes using the sharp point of a knife (although a toothpick works just as well before cutting black sugarpaste to size for the eyes and piped the mouth using a writing (#1 or 2) nozzle.

Simple to make and didn’t last very long when I brought it home. I’ve already made another for a friend’s birthday and have been asked to make one for another friend’s birthday in December.
